Hi I'm Justin! I'm from a small town near Boston in the United States. I've been living in Japan now for more than a year and studying Japanese for about as long. My work experience is varied but over the last few years it has been focused in the educational field. I am also interested in writing, editing, and translating.
Community College of Rhode Island
The ACCESS program provided one-on-one tutoring services for University students who met a certain criteria. Each student was allotted a weekly maximum of three hours study time with their tutor. As a tutor, I could work for a maximum of 19 hours weekly. I assisted students in a range of courses including Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, and Mathematics. Besides reviewing and expanding upon course material, I frequently used practice quizzes and games to gauge the student's progress toward their academic goals. This job also provided valuable experience working together with ESL students who needed more help understanding aspects of language and vocabulary in their respective courses.

This is an online position in which I teach one-on-one classes to Chinese students between the ages of 5 and about 13. The classes are each 25 minutes long and we follow VIPKID's curriculum as the student develops their English speaking, reading, grammar, etc. As I am considered an Independent Contractor, I make my own schedule and students book my available time slots as they wish. I typically teach around 40 classes a week now that I am studying Japanese as well.
PSI provides test centers across the United States for professionals seeking certification in a number of fields including plumbing, electrical, real estate, etc. I managed the day-to-day operations of the only test center Rhode Island with one other employee. The position was part-time and working hours were limited to the number of applicants and their appointments. As a test proctor for PSI, monitoring clients and assisting when any issues arose were the main functions of the position. As clients were allotted a finite time for their individual tests, time-management, problem-solving, and efficiency were valuable skills during my time with PSI Inc.
During my undergraduate studies, I found a job working for a local gourmet coffee company. My job as Roastmaster was to oversee the Roastery and it's day-to-day operations. Besides the actual roasting of coffee, I was responsible for packaging and delivering orders, and maintaining a high level of quality among the various products.

Bachelors of Arts 場所 Spanish and Journalism
By studying Journalism, I learned the fundamentals of mass media and its many forms. Classes taught how to write articles, proofread for proper grammar, as well as create documentaries and radio programs.
Concurrently, I studied Spanish throughout my academic career. Not only the grammatical and speaking portions, but also examining classic texts such as Don Quixote for thematic comprehension and discussion. By studying a foreign language, my purpose was to expand the scope of my learning to embrace global media and achieve the degree of international communications.

During my Freshman year of University, I moved from my hometown to San Francisco, California to study at SFSU. My studies were cut short though due to internal problems at the University, budget cutbacks, and student strikes.
Kyoto International Club Klexon

When I have some free time I enjoy attending these language exchange meetings organized by Klexon. Each session volunteers and participants rotate around the room, sharing short conversations with several members and then forming groups to complete an activity together.
After leaving my host family in Mallorca, I backpacked from Paris to southern Spain in Andalusia. Here I lived and volunteered on an organic farm and Hindu Temple for about one month. Though it was a scorching summer, volunteers performed various tasks such as working in the field, preparing meals, constructing a new residence, etc.
スペイン, Campos, Mallorca
After graduating from University with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and Journalism, I wanted to hone my Spanish language skills. So I signed up to live with a host family on Spain's island Mallorca. Besides growing very close to the family and exchanging culture (and lots of food!) I taught the two sons and their group of friends English classes on weekday mornings.
Radio Station Intern
I interned at Rhode Island's National Public Radio Station during the summer of my final year in University. I was sent out to conduct interviews and at the station I wrote various articles for our Radio Host to present over the air.
In 2013, I participated in a semester-long course with International TEFL Academy and INTESOL Worldwide LTD. This online course provided rigorous training and also required 20 practical hours. Through completion of this course I became certified in TEFL instruction.
