Foreign residents need more support in Japan, but is the government equipped to provide those services?
New to Japan and overwhelmed with all the differences? You're not alone. A government survey of 375 foreign residents in Japan found that 90% of the respondents need more public support for living conditions. The survey found that new residents to Japan, especially those that were brought in under the new visa systems implemented in April need support in renting houses, finding hospitals that had services in English or their mother tongue and many hoped that the pension systems between their home countries and Japan would be linked.
Prefectural governments have already started responding by providing information on housing, child care, disaster management and medical services in multiple different languages.
