Summary
Meiko English Lab “Bilingual Staff” provide fun, creative, and meaningful experiences in the English language for children ages 3-12 years old at its English language conversation schools. Bilingual staff prepare and teach fun and engaging English language lessons in addition to Eiken preparation lessons and English fun time (English language activities). Bilingual staff are also expected to assist with the everyday running of the school including cleaning, reception, and other clerical duties.
Required Qualifications
All applicants for Meiko English Lab “Bilingual Staff” positions should meet the following minimum eligibility requirements before their candidacy can be considered. Exceptions may be made under special circumstances:

- Those wishing to meet “Bilingual” English criteria through demonstration of 8 years of education in the English language, should list all the schooling they received in English.

- Language proficiencies and levels (Including English regardless of whether it is your first language or mother-tongue).
- Temperament Screening (Test to be Administered After Final Interview)

Residency Requirements
Applicants must possess Japanese citizenship or a residency status that allows for mid-to-long-term residence in Japan
- Preference is given to Japanese citizens and applicants with one of the following residency statuses:
- Permanent Resident
- Long-Term Resident
- Dependent of a Japanese National
- Dependent (Dependent of a Permanent Resident)
- Highly-Skilled Professional
- Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Relations
- Applicants without one of the above residency status must be in possession of “Permission to engage in an activity other than those permitted by the status of residence previously granted (i.e. a work permit)”
Candidates must meet one at least one of the following criteria
- Completed 8 years of education with English as the primary language of instruction
- Able to present test scores or certificates demonstrating proficiency at levels equivalent or greater than the following:
- Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
- B2 – “Independent”
- Cambridge English Qualification (Formerly “Cambridge English: Proficiency”)
- 160 or higher – B2 “First” or “Vantage (Business)”
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- 5.5 or higher
- Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko English Lab
- IELTS is Meiko English Lab’s preferred test for English language proficiency.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- iBT (Internet-based test) – 72 or higher
- ITP (Institutional Testing Program) – 543 or higher
- Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko English Lab
- Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
- Listening and Reading – 785 or higher
- Speaking and Writing – 310 or higher
- Tests must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko English Lab
- The Eiken Foundation’s Test in Practical English Proficiency (EIKEN)
- Pre-Level 1 or higher
- Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko English Lab
- Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
Those who cannot demonstrate proficiency through any of the above means will have their cover letters and other related application materials screened for proficiency language professionals at Meiko English Lab Headquarters. Speaking a listening proficiency will be assessed during a pre-interview meeting or by way of video interview (to be submitted alongside the job application or to be requested before the first official interview). By submitting an application to Meiko English Lab, applicants agree to be subject to the screening criteria as set by the selection committee.
Criteria for “Bilingual” Japanese Designation:
Candidates must meet one at least one of the following criteria
- Completed 3 years of education with Japanese as the primary language of instruction
- Able to present test scores or certificates demonstrating proficiency at levels equivalent or greater than the following:
- Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
- N3 or higher
- Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT)
- J3 (320 points) or higher
- Test of Practical Japanese (J.Test)
- Level E (500 points) or higher
- Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)

Description
“Bilingual Staff” responsibilities include the following:
Basic Job Functions
- Preparation and execution of daily English language lessons, Eiken prep lesson, and English fun time (English language activities)
- Maintenance of school cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and overall safety.
- Assistance at promotional events including open houses, seasonal events, etc.
- Consistent provision of feedback of student progress to school management and parents/guardians.
- Other tasks as assigned by school management with regard to school operations (including reception and clerical duties), special events, staff management, etc.

- Business Days: Tuesday – Sunday1
- Days Closed: Mondays and National Holidays1
- Hourly Wage: 1,200 JPY or more2
- Training Period: 3 Months (Hourly wage during training period is 1,000 JPY)
