Summary
Meiko Kids e is an afterschool care facility open to children ages 3 – 12. We aim to provide an immersive international environment where English is the main mode of communication. In addition to providing standard afterschool care services, we also provide optional courses for children to prepare for Eiken exams and even programming!
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants for Meiko Kids e “Afterschool English Language Teacher” positions should meet the following minimum eligibility requirements before their candidacy can be considered. Exceptions may be made under special circumstances:

Ideal candidates for this position are described as follows:
- People with an interest in the English language and have a desire to improve their proficiency
- People interested in English language education, early childhood development, childcare, or related fields
- People who enjoy working with children
- People with a kind and open disposition capable of providing a safe, fun, and positive environment for the children that we serve to learn and play.
- Able to interact with children, parents/guardians, and other staff in a positive, friendly, and professional matter
- Native (or native level) English speakers
- Japanese proficiency is not a requirement but is appreciated
- Teaching experience (as a daycare provider, English teacher, online instructor, etc.) is a plus but not a requirement
- Applicants with no prior teaching experience will be provided with on-the-job training
- Experience in creating English language education curriculum is also a plus
Basic Education and Experience Requirements:
- Have completed a 4-year university education, an equivalent, or higher
- Experience working in English language education, early childhood education, and/or childcare is appreciated but not a requirement.
Applicants without Japanese citizenship must possess a residency status that allows for mid-to-long-term residence in Japan.

※ Applicants in possession of a residency status other than those listed above and who wish to work part-time may not begin their employment until after they have applied and been approved for permission to engage in activities other than permitted under the status of residence (i.e. a Work Permit). Meiko Kids e can assist in the application process. However, an official employment contract may not be signed and work for pay may not begin until permission has been given by the immigration bureau.
Description
Meiko Kids e is looking for energetic and proactive teachers to not only teach English language lessons but provide meaningful and active experiences with English through special activities, events, and everyday interactions. Job Details:
- Plan and prepare 40-minute lessons for pre-school (ages 3-5) and elementary school (ages 6-12) children
- Work with school staff to provide a safe, fun, and immersive environment for the children
- Communicate with school management as well as with parents/guardians regarding child progress
- Plan and lead special activities and events
- All necessary materials will be provided by the school
COMPENSATION AND WORK SCHEDULE
- Contract type: 1-year contract (renewable)
- Compensation: 250,000 – 270,000 JPY/Month (May vary depending on experience, ability, and certifications)
- Work hours: 11:00 – 20:00 Monday thru Friday*
*Working hours and day may vary depending on location, season, and special events.

CRITERIA FOR "ENGLISH LANGUAGE NATIVE-LEVEL"
Candidates must meet one at least one of the following criteria
- Completed 12 years of education with English as the primary language of instruction
- Able to present test scores or certificates demonstrating proficiency at levels equivalent or greater than the following:
- Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
- C2 – “Proficiency
- Cambridge English Qualification (Formerly “Cambridge English: Proficiency”)
- 200 or higher – C2 Proficiency
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- 8.0 or higher
- Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko Kids e
- IELTS is Meiko Kids e’s preferred test for English language proficiency.

- 8.0 or higher
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- iBT (Internet-based test) – 115 or higher
- ITP (Institutional Testing Program) – 650 or higher
- Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko Kids e
- Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
- Listening and Reading – 945 or higher
- Speaking and Writing – 400
- Tests must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko Kids e
- Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
※ For the purpose of working at Meiko Kids e, The Eiken Foundation’s Test in Practical English Proficiency (EIKEN) and Linguaskill tests are not accepted as proof of proficiency.
※Those who cannot demonstrate proficiency through any of the above means will have their cover letters and other related application materials screened for proficiency language professionals at Meiko Kids e Headquarters. Speaking a listening proficiency will be assessed during a pre-interview meeting or by way of video interview (to be submitted alongside the job application or to be requested before the first official interview).
